【Activity Report】FC Nono girls went on the second out-of-state football trip as a team to Jharkhand! (Yuwa)

Hello! We are FC Nono, a social football team in Bihar, India, dedicated to empowering underprivileged children through football activities.

In May 2024, 11 girls participated in a football training session at Yuwa, an NGO located in Jharkhand, India! This is the second time the girls from FC Nono went on the training session to Yuwa. Today we would like to report on what they did and learned during the trip.

Eleven FC Nono girls made the second out-of-state trip as a team to “Yuwa” in Jharkhand in May 2024.

Destination of This Trip: “Yuwa”

Yuwa is one of the largest girls' football schools in India with approximately 600 students currently enrolled. Like us, the organization uses girls' football as a platform for social development in rural India. For more information, read the article of our first trip to Yuwa!

Objectives of This Trip

The objectives of this trip were set, the same as before, to improve football skills, learn more about the rights of girls, and build confidence and courage.

Participants from FC Nono

We decided to allow only the girls who participated at least 80% of the daily practices to join this year’s trip. While only six girls participated last time, this time we nearly doubled the number of participants to eleven girls!

The criteria for the previous trip was set at 70% attendance. This time, eleven players cleared the 80% attendance requirement. What great progress!

While all six participants from last time were from Planetaridhi village in Bihar, this time there was one participant from a different village, Mastipur village! Influenced by the girls' activities in Planetaridhi village, girls from Mastipur village began to participate in the activities, and one of them cleared the above conditions and participated in the trip!

Activities during the Trip, Progress since the Previous Trip in 2023

On this trip, two parents (mothers) also accompanied us!

In order to improve the rights of girls, the awareness and perception of the adults around them must be changed as well. Since June 2021, when we started our activities, we have exchanged opinions and persuaded the mothers of the girls many times.

Before the first trip in 2023, many negative and anxious voices were raised, such as “Where are our girls going, won't they go to dangerous places, and why are they playing football?”

With repeated requests and strong desire of the girls themselves, FC Nono was able to implement the first trip, and this time was no exception.

The team decided to have two representatives of the mothers accompany the girls, so that they could observe our actual trip and practice!

During the trip, the mothers were inspired by understanding the purpose of FC Nono’s activities and by seeing our benchmarks, the Yuwa team staff and the girls, in person.

Above all, they said that they themselves enjoyed getting out of their daily world, refreshing themselves, and making many good memories!

At the field, we were able to play more matches than the previous time with the Yuwa team on a large court, since eleven girls from FC Nono joined the trip!

The FC Nono girls discussed among themselves as much as possible to determine the members and positions for the games.

The trip also included many Life Skill Sessions (LSS) to make the most of the free time at the dormitory, where the girls learned leadership, gender equality, and women's body structure and growth process.

On the last day, the girls from Yuwa wrote decorated and heartwarming letters to each FC Nono girl. We always receive the greatest and most heartfelt hospitality and thoughtfulness from Yuwa.

Through this trip, the eleven girls recognized that there are children who live in similar circumstances to them, but are getting closer to realizing their own dreams with their own will and through their daily efforts. This greatly increased their motivation for their daily activities.

Again, thank you Yuwa for always accepting us with kindness and lots of love!

We are posting our activities on social media in real time as much as possible.
